Atrial Fibrillation and Treatment with Anticoagulants Medication like Pradaxa

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common type of irregular heart beat. Rapid and irregular heart rates may be perceived as palpitations, fainting, chest pain, exercise intolerance, and occasionally produce angina and congestive symptoms of shortness of breath or edema. AF increases the risk of stroke caused by blockage (thrombosis or blood clot formation) which can be up to seven times that of the average population, depending on the presence of additional risk factors such as high blood pressure. Atrial fibrillation is usually accompanied by symptoms related to a rapid heart rate. People with atrial fibrillation often take anticoagulants such as Pradaxa to reduce the chances of blood clots.

Mechanism of Action
